What is Shopmobility?
Shopmobility is a service that hires out manual wheelchairs and powered scooters and other mobility equipment to anyone with limited mobility, giving freedom and independence in Uxbridge town centre. If walking longer distances is a problem Shopmobility can help. Hillingdon Shopmobility is solely run by volunteers and is situated on level 2 of the Chimes Shopping Centre car park. Equipment is for use in the Uxbridge town centre only (including The Pavilions, The Chimes, the library, the Civic Centre, Health Centre and Sainsburys) although see below for extended hire options.
Who can use it?
Anyone with mobility issues, whether permanent or temporary. Shopmobility is not only for older individuals or people with chronic disabilities. Maybe you have broken your leg or have strength problems after an operation? Do you have a child with disabilities who needs pushing in a wheelchair? Or simply you find walking longer distances difficult?
How do I join?
Booking is advisable. On your first visit you will need to bring one printed form of ID which includes your name and address. Currently there is a daily charge of £4 per visit for powered equipment and £2 for manual wheelchairs. Equipment can also be taken away for UK holidays, days out, etc. Cost per week is: scooters £20, wheelchairs £10.
Parking
There are plenty of disabled (Blue Badge) parking bays adjacent to the office on the 2nd floor of The Chimes car park. Blue Badge holders currently get up to 6 hours free parking by scanning the barcode on the back of the Blue Badge when exiting the car park.
If pre-booked we can also deliver equipment to the station, the bus stop or Dial-a-Ride on certain days.
